But Wait, There's More...
I wasn’t always the leader I am today. In fact, there’s been times in my life where I didn’t know who I was, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, I didn’t believe that my life had purpose or that anyone besides my immediate family would notice or care if I died.
That’s an incredibly confusing, sad, scary place to be. I spent a good amount of time there. I didn’t like feeling those feelings and so I numbed them with drinking and drugs. For years. Age 14-28, I drank heavily and was a black-out drinker, I used drugs (Almost all of them) at one time or another to cure the discomfort I felt inside me most of the time.
One fateful evening (01/19/2013), one of the most amazing things happened to me…
I was arrested on felony drug charges after getting in a blacked out fight with a bouncer at a local bar.
I started...
When I got out of jail my phone was dead. The whole time I was sitting in jail I was so concerned with coming up with a lie to tell my wife about where I had been and how I would navigate the court costs and dates with my work and family without being found out. As I sobered up and started realizing what I had done it hit me that I could go to jail or prison. This wasn’t my first offense. I wasn’t a role model citizen and likely any judge wouldn’t be questioned for making an example of me.
When I went to get my phone off the charger the first thing I saw was my phones background picture of my children.
My world came crashing down in that moment. How could I have been so selfish. All I had thought about for the past 12 hours was myself and how I was going to make ME feel better.
That night I made a change.
I started down a path…
And Kept Going...
I poured myself (pun intended) into recovery (A.A. / N.A.), therapy, the gym, yoga, self help books, and anything I could to improve myself and discover who I really was and how I could make sure I didn’t lose myself like that again.
By a miracle my case was mysteriously dismissed without me having to show face in court even once, I was promoted and promoted again at my job, and slowly I started building back the trust I had lost from my family and close friends.
I developed and established myself as a leader in my home and family as well as my work. I celebrated anniversary after anniversary in sobriety and helped others build and maintain successful, happy, joyous, and free lives.
My marriage blossomed and deepened in connection, communication and commitment. My children thrived.
And then…
And Going...
I lost my job.
An identity I had attached myself and a ton of my value to was an 18+ year career in aviation. I had no idea what to do next. I had dreamed of entrepreneurship and being my own boss for years and hadn’t pulled the trigger.
Thankfully the universe stepped in and pulled that trigger for me. I immediately hired a coach. I wanted to learn marketing and help my wife with her start-up development company. What I didn’t know was this would open my eyes to the world of coaching and facilitating powerful change in others.
So that’s what I do now. Since this first foray into receiving support and coaching I’ve invested thousands and thousands of dollars and hundreds and hundreds of hours into building myself and my coaching program to a world class level.
What I love most about it is that I never have to stop learning and growing. I still consistently invest heavily both my time and money in deepening my knowledge and expanding my skills. My purposes and visions for what my future and the future of the clients I serve is always evolving to higher and higher levels and EVERYTHING just keeps getting better and better.
